A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Sylvia Savoie Hanks, 82, who passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Scott.
Visitation hours will be observed on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and will resume on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Curley Hanks of Cankton; one daughter, Gwen Hanks Benoit of Cankton; two sons, Keith (Naomi) Hanks of Cankton, and Pat (Alice) Hanks of Canton, GA; one sister, Maysel Arceneaux of Scott; one brother, Walton “Brud” Savoie of Scott; five grandchildren, Amanda Blanco (Shane) of Lafayette, Jonathan Hanks (Amanda) of Lafayette, Samantha Hanks of Plano, TX, Daniel Benoit of Cankton, and Jacob Hanks (Natalie) currently stationed in Guam; one step-grandson, Zachary Thibodeaux, currently stationed in Oklahoma City, OK; one step-granddaughter, Christine Pierret (Zachary) of Duson; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Blanco, Clara Benoit, Owen Hanks, and Logan Hanks.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lorena and Ellis Savoie; and one brother, Ward Savoie.
Pallbearers will be Jody Arceneaux, Daniel Benoit, Shane Blanco, Al Chiasson, Lionel Cormier, Jonathan Hanks, Carl Savoie, and Zachary Thibodeaux. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Hanks, Ken Savoie, Tony Savoie, and William Stringfield.
