A Liturgy of the Word Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Odel Paul Robin, 86, who passed away January 1, 2022. Monsignor Jefferson LeBlanc will conduct the funeral services. Sandra Domingue and Brenella Richard will be the lectors; Valerie Andrus will be the musician. Interment will follow the service in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery of Scott, LA.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 between the hours of 10:00 am and 7:30 pm, and resume visitation on Wednesday morning at 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.
Odel is survived by his wife Mary Bergeron Robin of Lafayette; two daughters, Sandra Domingue and her husband Tony of Duson and Natalie Robin of Breaux Bridge; three sons, Darrell Robin of Lafayette; Robert Robin and his wife Lucy of Lafayette, and Anthony Robin and his wife Tonya of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Gloria Vincent and Brenella Richard of Broussard; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the former Ament Thibodeaux and Alcide Robin; two brothers, Olan Robin and Eugene Robin; and two sisters, Elberta Courville and Patricia Alleman.
Odel was a native of Ridge, LA and lived in Lafayette for most of his life. He married Ms. Mary Jane Bergeron at seventeen years old in the Fall of 1952. The couple recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. He was self employed as a mechanic, and was the owner/operator of Robin's Service Center, Robin Towing Service, and Acadiana Towing Service prior to retirement.
The couple was very involved with preserving the traditional music and dance of the Cajun culture. Odel was a member of the Cajun French Music Association, Chapitre de Lafayette, and served on its Board of Directors; and also Les Danseurs Chapitre de Lafayette. He and Mary loved to Cajun dance, and were instructors with Les Danseurs. They especially loved the Cajun waltz and won multiple dance competitions in this genre.
Odel also was a member of the men's Cursillo #211, the Lafayette Towing Service Association, and the Lafayette Rolley Hockey Association.
Serving as pallbearers are Donovan Robin, Robert Robin, Tony Robin, Tony Domingue, Colby Domingue, and Aubin Robin. Honorary Pallbearers include Randy Prather, Maurice Buquet, Gabriel Buquet, Keaton Robin, and Colton Gary.
