Albert “Jack” Dennen, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janice Zilar Dennen of Lafayette; four daughters, Shawn LeBlanc and her husband Manuel of Arlington, TX, Monica Rifenburg and her husband Jim of Lilburn, GA, Shelley Mulholland and her husband Len of Bakersfield, CA, and Marcy Bullock of Hesperia, CA; seven grandchildren, Sarah Buhler, Shane Mulholland, Michael Rifenburg, Katie Rifenburg, Emily LeBlanc, Jess Bullock, and Hannah Jaggli; nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Buhler, Jakob Buhler, Sydney Mulholland, Violet Mulholland, Luke Mulholland, Katie Mulholland, Maddux Rifenburg, Darcy Rifenburg, and Grant Jaggli; and one brother, Clyde Allen Dennen of Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mona and Joseph Dennen; one sister, Leah Jane Dennen; and two brothers, Raymond and Clay Dennen.
Jack was in the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He is a long time member of the First Christian Church in Santa Ana, CA and Lafayette, LA, where he served as Deacon. A graduate of SLI (University of Louisiana at Lafayette), he went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Education from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. He was a high school teacher for many years in California, and also coached football. In addition to teaching, he worked at Disneyland as an engineer on the train for 23 years. Jack has also been a member of the Lafayette Rotary Club, and an avid supporter of Ragin’ Cajun Athletics for many years.
In his free time, he collected trains and enjoyed visiting numerous battleships throughout the United States. He was loved by his family, friends, and students, and will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
