Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Anvil Briscoe "Tootie Pop", 72, who passed away June 5, 2025 at his residence. Archbishop John Milton of Emani Temple #49 of the African American Catholic congregation will officiate the services. Interment will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his companion, Barbara Salters; six sisters, Mary Enola Kimani, Cora Manuel, Sadie Rideaux, Louise Harvey, Sandra Faye Dees, and Sharon Wheeler; two brothers, Melvin Briscoe Jr. and Gerald Briscoe; two grandchildren, Dexter and Jordan Salters; and two great-grandchildren, Jayla Salters and Alexis Antoine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Melvin Briscoe Sr.; three brothers, Leroy Briscoe, Joseph Oliver Briscoe, and John Carroll Briscoe; and one sister, Winella Briscoe.
Anvil was a native of Sunset and resident of Lafayette for most of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was employed as a fireman by the Lafayette Fire Department for ten years before transferring to the Lafayette Municipal Airport Fire Department for another ten years.
Pallbearers will be Dexter Salters, Ramsey Briscoe, Daren Briscoe, Brandon Briscoe, Leroy Briscoe, and Kendall Briscoe. Honorary pallbearers include Melvin Briscoe Jr., Gerald Briscoe, James Rideaux, Joseph Rideaux, and David Rideaux.
The family requests that visitation be held Saturday morning prior to the service from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Walters Funeral Home.
