Bonnie Harrison

January 27, 1943 — October 23, 2013

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Bonnie Sue (Warren) Harrison, 70,  who went to be with her Lord early Wednesday morning, October 23, 2013, after fighting a courageous, short battle with cancer. Pastor Luther Burney, Assistant to the Pastor at First Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral service. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will perform, "Amazing Grace", "Old, Rugged Cross", and "I'll Fly Away". Interment will follow the service in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro.
Bonnie was born on January 27, 1943 to Pete and Mannie (Smith) Warren in Castor, La. She was one of 14 children. She attended school in Castor and excelled in basketball. She later met and married the father of her children, Gerald Lee Harrison. The Harrison’s moved to Lafayette in the early 70’s where Bonnie became active with her children and several organizations. She enjoyed tennis at Beaver Park with members of  T.A.L.L.; bowling with the Tuesday Fun Time League; and the Business Women's League. Her passion was bridge, and she played with the Acadiana Duplicate Bridge Club for many years. She achieved greatness with this game and traveled to many tournaments. She enjoyed many hours of Mexican Train Dominoes, cards and the casino with her partners in crime. In her last few years she was an active member of the Carencro Lions Club, working many hours doing pre-school eye screenings in her community. She loved the Louisiana Lions Crippled Children’s Camp and frequently attended  the closing ceremonies of the summer camps. The special needs children of Louisiana held her heart.
Surviving to celebrate her life are her greatest achievements, her children Jerry Wayne (J.W.) and Kathy Harrison, Kenneth Lee and Melissa Harrison,  Tamala Suzanne (Harrison) and David Mergist, and  Jeffery Few and Sharon Harrison; her greatest joy, her grandchildren Marcus Bryan and Tina Harrison, Margaret Suzanne (Harrison) and Michael Broussard, Sommer Nicole (Harrison) and Chris Wadsworth, Misty Raine’ Harrison, Byron and Teryn Talley, Louis Jordan Wyatt, Jonathan David Mergist, David Shawn and Victoria Mergist, Crystal Elizabeth (Mergist) Drake, Kate Leigh Harrison and Reed Thomas Harrison; her most precious great-grandchildren, Weston Lee Harrison, Haven Few Harrison, Mckenzie Wadsworth, Micah Wadsworth, Marley Wadsworth, Ainsley Wadsworth, and Nova-Leigh Wadsworth and Brody Lee Mergist; her siblings, Nathan and Shine Warren of Castor, La., Joy (Warren) and Stan Gilcrease of Shreveport, La.; Stanley (Sammy) and Alenda Warren of Castor, La.; Bobby Faye (Warren)Woodard of Ringgold, La., and Joyce (Warren) and James Williams of Coushatta, La.; one sister-in-law, Oma Lee Warren; and two brothers-in-law, Vance Griffith and Brad Schmidt; her partners in crime and best friends Greta Pollack, Judy Richard, Wilda Spryer, Jeannette Matthieu, Barbara Troglen and Doyle Nelson; and lastly, the love of her life and father of her children Gerald Lee Harrison and his wife Jane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Merline Warren, Willie Hester (Warren) Anderson, Betty Jean (Warren) Griffith, Josephine (Warren) Rigdon and LaNay (Warren) Schmidt; and three brothers, O’Quin Warren, Kenneth Warren and Ray Warren.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday, October 24, 2013, from 4:00 - 9:00 pm, and resume Friday morning at 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening.
The family would like to especially thank Hospice of Acadiana for their compassion and care during this very difficult time.
