Dallas Thomas

April 9, 1941 — March 8, 2014

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Dallas Joseph Thomas, 72, who passed away March 8, 2014 at his residence in Abbeville. Father Brian Taylor, pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will officiate the mass and conduct the funeral services. Ray Anette Lopez will sing "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", "Old, Rugged, Cross", "How Great Thou Art", and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". Ashley Maturin and Jeffery Speers will be the lectors; Felicia Gelner and Paige Thomas will be the gift bearers. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Romero (Danny) of Lafayette, Donna Rogers of Carencro, and Ray Anette Lopez (Buck) of Abbeville; two sons; Keith Thomas (Linda) of Carencro and Todd Thomas (Dodie) of Abbeville; one stepdaughter, Debbie Hanks (Daniel) of Duson; two stepsons, Mike Sonnier of Carencro and Chad Touchet of Scott; one brother, Robert "T-Boy" Thomas of Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his companion, Brenda Place of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Baudoin Thomas; his parents, the former Gertie Newman and Ellis Thomas; two brothers, Pat Thomas and Jerry Thomas; one stepson, Patrick Sonnier; and one step granddaughter, Joni Hanks.
Dallas was a native of Lake Charles and resident of Scott for most of his life. He was employed by Pipeline Local #692, and in his free time he enjoyed rooster fights and horse races.
Pallbearers will be Keith Thomas, Travis Rogers, Tyson Rogers, Danny Romero, Todd Thomas, Scott Gelner, Chad Touchet, and Gerald Thomas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Sonnier, Daniel Hanks, Buck Lopez, Ryan Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Jeffery Speers, Trinton Sonnier, Daniel Hanks, Jr. and Mitchell Hanks.
The family requests that visitation be held Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 10:00 am until time of service on Monday. A rosary will be led by Deacon Jay Bergeron at 6:30 pm Sunday evening. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph's Hospice, 1003 Hugh Wallis Rd., Ste. F-2, Lafayette, LA 70508.
