A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Dorothy "Jean" Guidry Shelvin, 80, who on November 16, 2022 made her transition into glory to be united with her loved ones.
Jean was born July 7, 1942, in Carencro to loving parents, Leonard Guidry and Eulalie Williams Guidry. She attended St. Paul Catholic School and graduated from Holy Rosary High School. She was employed at Hamilton Medical Group where she retired after 45 years of dedicated service and was loved by all staff members.
Jean loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for them and always had an open door. Whenever anyone needed, she was there to help. She loved dancing-earning the nickname Beyonce', having fun, listening to music, and enjoying her nieces and nephews. Everyone spoiled her, having been the youngest of 12 siblings.
She met and united in marriage to Charles Shelvin, Sr. In this union they were blessed with three children, Charmaine, Charles Jr. and Quincy.
Jean is survived by two children, Charmaine Shelvin and Quincy Shelvin; three grandchildren, Nyla Shelvin, Shayla Shelvin, and Kai Shelvin; one daughter-in-law Yvette Shelvin; one brother, Leo Guidry; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Guidry.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Charles Shelvin, Sr.; one son, Charles Shelvin, Jr.; her parents, Leonard Guidry and Eulalie Williams Guidry; three sisters, Josephine (Adam) Dugas, Viola (Willie) Faulk, and Peola Daniels; seven brothers, Preston (Agnes) Guidry, Shefton (Esther) Guidry, Wilson (Jeanette) Guidry, Joe (Eloise) Guidry, Curly (Coralie) Guidry, Billy Guidry, and Carson Guidry; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Shelvin; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Guidry, Rose Mae Shelvin, and Rita Mae (Oran) Narcisse.
The family requests that visitation be held on Saturday morning prior to the services between the hours of 8:00 am - 10:30 am at Walters Funeral Home. Interment will follow the mass in St. John Cemetery.
