Dorothy "Dottie" Pierce

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Dorothy "Dottie"Elizabeth Pierce, 84, who passed away May 28, 2016. Father Mark Melancon, associate pastor at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Church Point will conduct the funeral services. Shawn Roy and Lisa Sheppard will be the musicians. Interment will be in Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Pierce of Lafayette; two daughters, Linda Gail Hamilton of Lafayette and Krista Kay (Edward) Bowman of Redwood City, CA; three sons, James Howard (Carrolyn) Hamilton III of Long Beach, MS, David Walter (Joni) Hamilton of Lafayette, and Richard Michael (Claire) Hamilton of Hattiesburg, MS; seven grandchildren, Jimmy, Joey, Kristin, Heather, Matthew, Nathan and Annalise; and three great-grandchildren, Ally, Anna Kate and Mason.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Howard Hamilton Jr., her parents, Wilhelmina and Walter Irwin Ettleman, and one brother.
Dottie was a native of Phoenix and longtime resident of Fairfax, Virginia. She resided in Lafayette for the past 12 years. She will be remembered for the 25 years she served as director and instructor of the Hillwood and Americanette Baton and Drum Corps in Northern Virginia. During these years, she had a positive influence on a countless number of young lives. In retirement, Dottie enjoyed serving as a Hospice volunteer, traveling around the country in the motor home, and attending line dance clinics and conferences. In her last years, Dottie was an avid UL Lady Cajuns softball fan, rarely missing a game.
The family wishes to thank Cornerstone Village South, the staff at Lourdes Hospital, and Hospice of Acadiana for the loving care and support given to Dottie and to the family.
The family requests that visitation be held from 9:00-11:00 am prior to the service on Tuesday.
