Duane Meche

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15 at 2 p.m. for Duane Michael Meche, 50, who passed away at his residence on September 12, 2010. The Reverend Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass, with Father Gilbert Dutel as Con-Celebrant.

Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum in Scott, Louisiana.

Valarie Andrus, organist, will sing "I Have Loved You", "Amazing Grace", "At The Foot of the Cross", Amazing Grace, "You Raise Me Up", "On Eagles Wings", and "How Great Thou Art". Readers will be Tyler Mallet and Carl Meche. Pallbearers will be Carl Meche, David Meche, Alan Stelly, Mike Broussard, Mickey Broussard, and Mike Thibodeaux. Serving as honorary pallbearers are his three sons J. W., Brent, and Dustin Meche.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m., and will resume again Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be prayed Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel.

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years Angela Stelly Meche of Lafayette; three sons, J. W. Meche, his companion Amber Sonnier and her son Ethan Theriot of Carencro, Brent Meche of Lafayette, and Dustin Meche and his companion Tracie Montoucet of Lafayette; mother Joyce Trahan Meche of Scott; mother-in-law Jane Alice Tauzin Stelly of Lafayette; two brothers, Carl Meche and his wife Phyllis of Scott, and David Meche and his wife Missy of Sunset; one sister, Cheryl Meche Thibodeaux and her husband Mike of Scott, 15 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Newton "Mac" Meche, maternal grandparents Anita and Helaire Trahan Sr., paternal grandparents Lucy and Cyrus Meche, father-in-law Francis A. Stelly, and two nieces, Brittni and Kohdi Meche.

A resident of Lafayette, Duane was an employee of Anadrill Schlumberger for the past 17 years. He was a loving husband, father, brother and son, and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed being an active member of the Acadiana Bass Club from 1980-1988. He also recently joined the Lafayette Kayak Club.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Mike and Mona Broussard, Dr. Castine and Staff, and all friends and family for the love and support shown during this difficult time.
