Elaine Ducharme

Funeral Services will be held July 10, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Elaine Ducharme, 81, who passed away July 5, 2026. Father Andrew Schumacher, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Rachel Ducharme and Taylor Stokes will serve as lectors; Karen Broussard will provide musical selections.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Allen Ducharme of Lafayette; one son, Scotty Allen Ducharme and daughter-in-law Rachel Douglas Ducharme of Lafayette; two sisters, Geraldine Reaux and Ann Howes; one brother, Russell Girouard; and one granddaughter, Sydney Lillian Ducharme.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the former Agnes Marie Bernard and Frank Louis Girouard, Jr.

Elaine was born in Broussard and lived in Lafayette her entire life. She worked for the City of Lafayette in the Purchasing Department before retiring. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and enjoyed singing in the women's choir.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Douglas, Zane Granger, Chase Robertson, and Ashton Strohmeyer.

The family requests that visitation be held Friday morning between the hours of 9:00 am - 11:00 am. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 am.

My beautiful mom, Elaine Ducharme.

It is hard to find the words to say goodbye to someone who loved so deeply and so unconditionally. My mom’s love was her battle cry. Her heart guided everything that she did, and she showed her love through constant encouragement, devotion, and support.

She was our family’s biggest fan in life, and one of my greatest joys was watching her give that same love and devotion to my daughter, Sydney. Throughout our lives, she loved her family completely, celebrated us fully, and made sure we always knew that she was proud of us.

She also helped ground me in the importance of faith. Through her words, her example, and the way that she lived, she reminded me how important faith is in my life. That is one of the many gifts that she gave to me that will remain forever.

She loved being a mother and grandmother more than anything in this world. Her family was her greatest joy, and she gave herself to us with a love that never had conditions.

Mom found joy in the simple and beautiful things: painting, gardening, singing with the Holy Cross Women’s Choir, riding her bicycle through the neighborhood, and spending time with the people that she loved. She was also a courageous cancer survivor who faced life with strength, grace, and faith.

This picture means so much to me because it captures what I will always remember: her smile, her warmth, and the joy that she brought into every room.

I love you, Mom. Thank you for loving me so completely. Thank you for being our family’s biggest fan. Thank you for giving Sydney that same beautiful, unconditional love throughout her life that you gave to me. Thank you for grounding me in faith and reminding me what truly matters. You will be missed more than words can ever express, but your love will stay with us forever.

My Momma D. 🕊️ My first best friend.

You captured the essence of who I am in hundreds of photographs, journals detailing days we spent together, and home videos.

For days I’ve tried to piece together how to honor you fully and I know now it’s to carry the light and fire you lit in me all those years ago.

To love unconditionally.

Sing, dance, and laugh like we always did.

How incredibly lucky am I to feel the immense heart wrenching grief I feel from you passing so suddenly.

After sitting in your living room with Poppa D. and my Dad, digging through all these photo albums you created for us, for me, I realize how much time we really did have together.

And still, it feels as though it wasn’t enough.

I’ll cherish the memories of you putting me in your bicycle basket and proudly riding around with me in your neighborhood until I learned to ride my own bike in your driveway.

You picking me up from school every day without fail. Bringing me to singing lessons and staying in the driveway with your windows rolled down so you could hear me.

Coming to school to eat lunch with me when you knew I was having a hard time with kids at school.

Teaching me about Jesus, and how to pray a rosary.

And pouring every ounce of love into your granddaughter, building me up to be the woman I am today.

There would never have been enough time, or enough words so now I’ll honor you with my life.

Thank you for a lifetime of memories and for giving me the most whimsical childhood a girl could have ever asked for.

I loved every moment of being your dress up doll.
