Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at an 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lafayette for Mrs. Eva Dell Rochon, the former Eva Dell Melancon, who passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at her residence. The Reverend Lambert Lein, pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church will officiate the services. Lectors will be Eva Dell's nieces Sandra Brown and Robin Redding, and the eulogist will be Dell's niece and godchild, Shannon Gregoire. Musical selections performed by Geraldine Broussard will include "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Going Home To Be With My Mother". Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
Eva Dell was born June 1, 1945 in Lafayette. She worked at the Lafayette Association of Retarded Citizens for nearly 30 years. Her clients at LARC were her pride and joy, and she treated them with kindness and respect. After leaving LARC, Dell always followed up with her previous clients to make sure they were doing well. Dell was truly a unique person and it has been said that she never met a person that she didn't like, and her beautiful smile and disposition would light up a room.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd Rochon; two sons, Jason Rochon and his wife Christina and Dr. Brent Rochon and his fiance Anya Hancock; one grandchild, Jenna Rochon; two brothers, Albert Melancon and his wife, Vivian, and Roy Melancon and his wife Joyce; two sisters, Chris M. Chiasson and Merlene Pierre; nine sisters-in-law, Leatrice Sonnier Melancon, Sandra Frazier Melancon, Bridgid Gibson and her husband Carl, Audrey Broussard and her husband John, Ingrid Lalonde and her husband Alvin, Jeanne Gibson and her husband Derek, Claudette Rochon, Diane Rochon, and Victoria Orebo; three brothers-in-law, Claude Rochon and his wife Catherine, Jerome Rochon and his wife Gail, and Emanuel Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Melancon and the former Mary Thomas; three brothers, Junius, Wilbert, and Joseph Melancon; three sisters, Wille Duhon, Celeste Duhon and Mae Thelma Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, Wilton Chiasson and Willis Pierre.
Dell's family offers special thanks to Drs. Joseph Brierre, Chancellor Donald and Karen Roden and staff for their very kind and caring service; Dr. Prellop and her staff, especially Connie; the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center; sister-in-law Leatrice Melancon; and her sisters Chris and Merlene. A very special thanks is also offered to Lloyd's sister Victoria Orebo, who was with Dell on a daily basis providing loving care in Dell's time of need.
Pallbearers will be Dell's nephews, Chad Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Keith Melancon, Troy Melancon, Reagan Pierre, and Vincent Pierre. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Melancon, Albert Melancon, Jeremy Melancon, and Cory Arceneaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00-9:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20 at Walters Funeral Home; and from 10:00-11:30 on Wednesday, December 21 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 on Tuesday evening.
