Gertrude was born in Indian Bayou on December 1, 1935 to Dewey and Ann Menard. She married the love of her life, Raymond, and lived in Lafayette until they moved to Baton Rouge.
Gertrude was our angel on earth. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Through her life experiences from her humble beginnings, she lived her life with a profound positive attitude sharing her love and wisdom with everyone that was blessed to know her. Gertrude was affectionately known to her family as “MawMaw.” Her family was her life, and there was never a day that passed that she didn’t embrace or brag about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to laugh, and we will treasure our memories of sitting around the kitchen and dining room tables listening to her jokes and loving each and every prank she played on us during the holidays. One might even say she was the “Bingo Queen!” She also was a committed and dedicated friend to those who knew her best, and we loved listening to the numerous escapades that grew from so many cherished friendships.
Gertrude was employed by Our Lady of Lourdes in Accounts Payable for a short period of time, and later she worked for the Louisiana Department of Revenue. But first and foremost, she was a stay-at-home super mom for most of her adult life. To know Gertrude was to love her gentle nature and everything about her “Big Big.” We will cherish the imprint she left on our hearts through her unassuming personality that was filled with kindness, compassion, and generosity.
Gertrude loved to travel and experience all life had to give. She was also involved for many years as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she actively participated in community outreach and fundraisers.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Huval, her brothers Herman “Bobby” Menard and Raymond Menard, her sister Priscilla Benoit, and her parents Dewey and Ann Menard.
Our “MawMaw” will be so dearly missed. She is survived by her children: Paul (Patti) Huval and John (Rhonda) Huval; five grandchildren, Chase (Allison) Huval, Blake (Lauren) Huval, Nicole (Fiance’ Jonathon) Huval, Kristen (Tylan) Meaux, and Blair (Ryan) Russo; seven great-grandchildren; Axel Huval, Cruz Huval, Hunter Meaux, Sage Huval, Rilye Huval, Maren Russo, and Kynlee Meaux; two brothers, Percy (Mary) Menard and Sandford (Mercedes) Menard; and her sister-in-law, Ethel Menard. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Flannery Oaks Nursing Home for their kindness and compassionate care to our mom.
