A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Gervin G. Tweedel, 82, who passed away April 24, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Father Brian Taylor, pastor of St. Genevieve, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Susan Askary and Darrel Doguet will be lectors; gift bearers will be Tonya Guidry and Matthew Tweedel. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will perform, "Amazing Grace", "My Shepherd Is The Lord", "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus", and "How Great Thou Art". Interment will follow the service in Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nelda Doguet Tweedel of Lafayette; two daughters, Kathleen (David, III) Guidry of Carencro and Susan (Billy) Askary of Houston, TX; two sons, Michael (Laura) Tweedel of Tampa, FL and James Tweedel of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Tonya Guidry, Olivia Guidry, William Tweedel, Matthew Tweedel, Erich Curtis, Anthony Curtis, and Zoe Askary; and  one great-granddaughter, Analleila Mae Curtis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Bernadette Tweedel, one sister, Veronica LaFleur; and one son-in-law, Michael Curtis.
A native of Lewisburg, LA and resident of Lafayette for 57 years, Gervin was the owner and operator of Tweedel Appliance Repair. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion.
Gervin loved the Lord. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and parishioner of St. Genevieve where he volunteered as an usher for 25 years.
Pallbearers will be Michael Deshotels, Anthony Curtis, Erich Curtis, Michael Tweedel, Billy Askary, and Patrick Doguet. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Guidry, III, James Tweedel and Olivia Guidry.
The family requests that visitation be held Sunday, April 27 from 2:00 - 9:00 pm, and resume on Monday morning at 8:00 until time of service. A rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus and the St. Genevieve Ushers Society at 6:00 pm Sunday evening.
