Memorial services will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Jack McCord, 95, who passed away on June 8, 2026. Time of service is pending.
Jack was born to Quintus Watson and Morene Taylor McCord in Austin, TX on December 22, 1930. He attended Austin High School and was a member of the swimming and diving team. He was ranked 2nd in the state in the "18 and Under" division in springboard diving. After turning down several scholarships, he moved to Houston and began his journey in the oil business with Tennessee Gas. He was drafted in the United States Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return he continued with Tennessee Gas, and attended the University of Houston.
Jack left Tennessee Gas and became an oil and gas land man with Wesley West, an independent oil operator. During this time he met and married Patricia "Patsy" Glover. They married, and later moved to Lafayette, LA where Jack became an independent land man, opening Quinto Resources and Quinto Abstract. He was one of the first to use computer technology in lease acquisition reports.
Jack was a member of the American Association of Petroleum and the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Land Men (LAPL), where he was honored as a "Legend of LAPL" for his professionalism and service to the association. He was a longtime member of Oakbourne Country Club, where he spent many weekends playing golf and tennis. He and his good friend Jimmy played courses all over the nation. Jack was always trying to improve his game and he always said that when it was his time to go he wanted to go with a low handicap.
Jack is survived by his children, Susan McCord of Evergreen, CO, Quint McCord (Myrna) of Scott, LA, and Jack Macdowell (Michelle) of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Madison McCord, Mason Gillard, and Jackie Macdowell; and two great-granddaughters, Bliss and Brynn Macdowell.
He is preceded in death by his wife Patsy; his parents Morene and Quintus; one son, Randy McCord; and one brother, Howard McCord.
