John D. Silvetti, II

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for John D. Silvetti II, 69, who peacefully passed away on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

John was a devoted father, proud grandfather, beloved son and brother, and loyal friend. He is survived by his three children, Marianne Silvetti-Voorhies and her husband, Kim Jr.; Christina Silvetti-Short; and J. David Silvetti III. He also leaves behind five cherished granddaughters, Giulyana, Isabella, Gabriella, Faith, and Stella; his mother, Patricia Davis; and his sisters, Tina Poltrock and her husband, Jack, and Lori Lex and her husband, Jim. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Silvetti; his wife, Roberta; and his grandson, John Joseph “JJ” Voorhies.

John never met a stranger. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help someone in need. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he worked with nuclear weapons. His military service remained a significant source of pride throughout his life. Following his service, he built a career in marine offshore surveying.

John’s compassion for others eventually inspired him to establish a nonprofit organization benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He also assisted in numerous searches for missing persons using specialized underwater sonar equipment and commercial vessels. His willingness to use his knowledge and resources to help others reflected the generous spirit with which he lived his life.

Above all, John loved the Lord and his family. He cherished his children, grandchildren, mother, sisters, extended family, and the time he shared with those he loved. He enjoyed reading, philosophy, socializing, and making others laugh. He was especially known for creating humorous songs in the style of “Weird Al” Yankovic—a talent that brought laughter to his family and friends.

In honor of John’s love of reading and philosophy, his family shares one of his favorite quotations:

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center; Walters Funeral Home; Lafayette Memorial Park; Faith Lutheran Church, Pastor Brandon Carlone; and the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard for their care, compassion, and support.
