Joseph M. "Joe" Broussard , 88, passed away February 24, 2023 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Vincent Broussard of Lafayette; three daughters, Kathryn Ann (Mark) Johnson of McLean, VA, Barbara Rene (Doug) Rabil of Great Falls, VA, and Mary Jo (Scott) Speier of Bethesda, MD; and six grandchildren, Brennan Johnson, Brooke Johnson, Bryan Rabil, John Michael Rabil, Natalie Speier, and Robert Speier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Felix Broussard; and one sister, Martha Broussard.
Joe was born in Washington, D.C., and lived in Lafayette since 1977. He was a graduate of St. John High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown University. Joe started out his working days as a stockbroker with IWE Hutton in DC, but soon transitioned to catering and opened his own business, Broussard Catering. He owned and operated the successful business for 38 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the Acadiana Chapter of the American Culinary Association.
Joe was most well known for his involvement in the DC Mardi Gras and the Mystick Krewe of Louisianans, of which his father helped develop in 1946. Joe served as the Louisiana State Society President after his father, and a Senior Lieutenant of the Krewe for many years before being honored with the title Senior Lieutenant Emeritus. Under his leadership the annual event has grown to showcases our state, its politics and people to a nationwide audience.
Joe wanted no funeral services, but to merely have family and friends celebrate or mourn him in the manner of their choosing. He will be cremated and his ashes inurned in a private, family ceremony.
