Kathleen Dare Ives Mayers was born in Durham, North Carolina on February 18, 1924 to Bertha and John Ives. On March 5, 1943 she married the love of her life, Joseph D Mayers, Sr. Their marriage was cut short by his untimely death in 1971. She lived a full and active life for 93 years, and took her last breath on earth and entered her heavenly home on January 19, 2018.
She is survived by 4 of her 5 children, Cecile Verret and husband Frank, Joseph Mayers, Jr and wife Judy, Cindy Hebert, and John Mayers. Also 12 surviving grandchildren, whom she lovingly called her "dirty dozen" and her "greatest blessings": Frank Verret, Jr, Brandon Verret and wife Stephanie, Francis Justin Verret and wife Meghan, Britti Verret and spouse Jennifer, Amy Parks and husband Reuben, Joshua Mayers and wife Holly, Keith Hebert, Kenneth Hebert, Jennifer Leger and husband Lester, Jared Mayers and wife Katie, Megan Guidry and husband Tim, and Katie Mayers. She was also blessed with 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bertha and John Ives, her brothers Horace Ives and John Colvin, her son Jerry Mayers, her son-in-law Warren Hebert, and two grandchildren, Jamie Claire Mayers and Jeremy Michael Mayers.
Kathleen, endearingly known as "Kitty Kat" by family and friends, was a precious, generous, and loving soul. She was known to take fruit baskets to nursing homes and patients at the old UMC hospital, as she loved to give to those who had less. She was an entrepreneur, starting her own business selling hats and stockings "back in the day". She worked as an executive secretary for Southern Flow Co Inc from 1955 until she retired in 1989.
She loved to sing, and was a member of the Sweet Adelines, a ladies barbershop harmony choral group, traveling around for performance and competition. She was especially fond of Elvis Presley, and insisted that her age was stuck at 29. So on her 79th birthday, her family and friends surprised her with a "50th anniversary of her 29th birthday" party, with an Elvis impersonator to top it off.
The family wishes to thank Father Gilbert Dutel, Dr Bradley Chastant II, Grace Home Health, and Heart of Hospice for their care and concern.
