Marilyn Schiller Arton

September 26, 1954 — February 25, 2017

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church for Marilyn “Peddie” Schiller Arton, 62, who passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017.  Interment will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 15 years, Tim Arton of Carencro;  one daughter, Allie Arton of Houston, TX;  one son, Tyler Arton and his wife Giselle of Katy, TX;  three sisters, Susan Durio and her husband Charles of Carencro,  Nadine “Deanie” Schiller of Lafayette,  and Cindy Schiller of Carencro;  one granddaughter, Camille Arton;  three nieces, Sara Conner Laporte of Grand Coteau,  Leslie Clare Boriski and her husband Mike of Covington,  and Kelly Gerard and her husband Charles of Scott;  one nephew, Charles Kevin Durio of San Antonio, TX;  and one great-niece, Cecile Conner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Capitola and Byron Schiller;  one infant sister, also named Marilyn Schiller;  and one infant niece, Lindsey Michelle Laporte.

Marilyn never met a stranger. She was a kindhearted person who could put a smile on anyone’s face. She dedicated her life to helping others for 30 years as a nurse at Hospice of Acadiana, and was known as “the voice” of Hospice of Acadiana.  A uniquely beautiful soul who modeled the Gospel: "when I was ill you cared for me."

Marilyn was an alumna of USL, graduating with a B.S. degree in horticulture, and a B.S. degree in nursing.  She was an avid gardener, a longtime member of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, and was the owner of Les Dames des Flowers, a farmer/florist business.

Marilyn was a devout Christian, who enjoyed attending church, reading the word of the Lord, gardening, baking, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Pallbearers are Glen Arton, Mike Arton, Tyler Arton, Craig Buteau, Kevin Durio, and Charles Gerard.

Visitation hours will be observed on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m at the funeral home.  A rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.
