Mary Dekerlegand

Funeral services will be held in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. for Mary Dekerlegand, 66, who passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Pastor Chad Thibodeaux, Pastor of Vatican Baptist Church, will officiate the service.

Visitation hours will be observed on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and will resume on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m.

Mary is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ricky Dekerlegand of Carencro; two daughters, Lila Meche and her husband Jamie of Spring, TX, and Nicole Sonnier and her husband Doug Sonnier, II of Carencro; two sons, Casey Dekerlegand and his wife Sheree of Lafayette, and Matthew Mann of Carencro; two brothers, Lester Richard and his wife Linda of Carencro, and Irvin Richard of Carencro; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle and Irvin Richard; and three brothers, Chester Richard, Roger Richard, and Rickey Richard.

Mary was a Veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the American Legion.

In her free time, she enjoyed crabbing at Grand Isle, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Casey Dekerlegand, Matthew Mann, Blair Mann, Gideon Doucet, Levi Mann, and Bryllon Ramirez.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at St. Joseph Hospice.
