A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Maydel "Dell" Guidry, 79, who passed away Nov. 18 at her residence surrounded by her family. Father Gil Dutel, pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of the funeral mass and will conduct the funeral services. Francis Alleman Jr. will be the lector. Interment will follow the mass in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 4-9 pm, and resume Wednesday morning at 7 am until services. A rosary will be led by Sr. Ameline Theriot at 7 pm Tuesday evening.
Survivors include husband, Chester Guidry of Lafayette; two children, Stephanie (Michael) Primeaux and Jason (Jessica) Venable, both of Lafayette; step-daughter, Dena (Sean) Cowan of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Brock and Maci Primeaux, and Jacob and Josie Venable; two step-grandchildren, Darain and Anicka Cowan; and one great-granddaughter, Athena Cowan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the former Amelia Duhon and Cemar Alleman; her first husband, Freddie Venable; one brother, Francis Alleman, Sr., and three sisters, Yolande Bourque, Dorothy Burleigh, and Ann Mire.
The family extends its special thanks to Dr. Jessica Petry and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, the fifth floor staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and Maison de Lafayette for their care and compassion shown to Dell.
Pallbearers will be Jason Venable, Brock Primeaux, Jacob Venable, Jeffrey Delahoussaye, Sean Cowan, and Byron Miller. Honorary pallbearers include Maci Primeaux, Josie Venable, Brent Royer, Brian Royer, Pete Venable, and Henry Venable.
