Nita Barrett

November 18, 1931 — August 2, 2016

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 3:00 pm in St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Nita J. Barrett, 84, who passed away August 2, 2016. She was 84 years old. The Mass will be concelebrated by Father Gary Schexnayder, Father Howard Blessing and Father Patrick Broussard. Bonnie B. Comeaux and Brittany Stover will be the lectors; gift bearers will be Heather and Shayla Barrett, and Taylor Stover. Jodi Bollich will perform, "Amazing Grace," "To You, O Lord I Lift My Soul," "I Can Only Imagine," "His Eye Is On The Sparrow," and "Old Rugged Cross".Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Billy Barrett of Lafayette; daughter, Connie and her husband "Smokey" Stover, Jr. of Abbeville; son, Billy Barrett Jr. and his wife Rachael of Broussard; seven grandchildren,  Stewart Stover, Brittany Stover, Hunter Stover, Bryan Barrett, Brady Barrett, Blake Barrett, and  Bonnie Comeaux.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nita and Antoine Bernie Jeoffroy; and one brother, James Lee "Jimmy" Jeoffroy.
Nita was born on November 18, 1931 in Lafayette. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1949, and was crowned Miss Lafayette in 1948. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Billy,on a baseball field with more than 5,000 people in attendance! She worked as a switchboard operator for Southern Pacific Railroad for many years, and had a huge love of life that she shared with her family and friends.
Nita was a very spiritual person. She was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church and belonged to many rosary groups.
Pallbearers for the services will be her grandsons, Stewart Stover, Hunter Stover, Bryan Barrett, Brady Barrett, Blake Barrett, Adam Comeaux.
The family requests that visitation begin on Thursday morning at 9:00 am at Walters Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.
