Velma Breaux

September 18, 1931 — October 18, 2014

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Velma Breaux, 83, who passed away October 18, 2014. Charlotte Jagneaux, soloist, and Phyllis Simar, organist, will perform "Amazing Grace", "Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art", and "Green, Green Grass of Home". Lectors will be Rachel Breaux and Stevie Romero. Gift Bearers will be Megan Breaux, Jeremy Breaux, Brandon Carter, Heather McBride, Sherri Fargo, and Ericka Broussard. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Broussard (Adolph "Do") of Carencro, Bertha Carter of Lafayette and Mary Morgan (Travis) of Lafayette; four sons, Ricky Breaux (Desiree) of Lafayette, John Breaux (Patti) of Lafayette, Ronald "Dean" Breaux (Carla) of Pearland, TX and Randy Breaux (Mona) of Broussard; one sister, Gloria Castille of Breaux Bridge; three brothers, Joseph "Kite" Jeansonne (Joann) of Lafayette, Lin Berard (Renate) of Breaux Bridge, and Charles Berard (Jean) of South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Breaux; one son, Michael Breaux; her parents, the former Bertha Goulas and John Castille; her step-mother, Celine Castille; two sisters, Shirley Barras and Emily Breaux; eight brothers, Percy Castille, Harry Castille, Fred Castille, Davis Castille, Maurice Castille, Andrew Castille, and Patrick Castille; and one son-in-law, Kenneth Carter.
Velma was a native of Breaux Bridge. She was a loving mother who gave unconditional love to her eight children, working hard to provide for their needs. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing bingo, and going to the casino. She will be remembered for her delicious Sunday dinners prepared for her family.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Broussard, Christopher Breaux, Damien Breaux, Dakota Breaux, Ben Breaux, and Shawn Carter.
The family requests that visitation be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and resume Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be led by Karen Briggs at 6:00 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Anna Chevalier and the friends and staff of Courtyard Manor for the compassion and care shown to Velma over the years.
