A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church for Yvonne Mamer Hernandez, 77, who passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016. The Reverend Mark Ledoux, Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church, will officiate the ceremony. Lectors will be Cristina Alvergue and Pamela Rigsby. Gift Bearers are Marella Laughlin and Ruby Hopkins. Interment will take place at St. Peter Cemetery.
Yvonne is the daughter of her deceased parents, Auguste Mamer and Manilla Sonnier Mamer. Her father died five months before Yvonne was born and her mother later married Eddie Conques.
Yvonne is survived by her second husband, Donald Hernandez; her daughter Carmen Alvergue Murillo and her husband Enrique; her son Luis Miguel Alvergue and his wife Alicia; her five grandchildren, Daniela Murillo, Roberto Murillo, Ana Cristina Alvergue, Gabriela Alvergue, and Isabela Alvergue; two step-daughters, Pamela Rigsby and Katherine Hernandez; one brother, Charles Mamer; and one half-sister, Cecile Conques Picard.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugo Alvergue; one daughter, Cristy Anna Alvergue; two sisters, Adele Mamer Bourque, and Colette Mamer Zeringue; and one brother, Paul Mamer.
After getting married and the birth of her children, she and her husband Hugo moved to El Salvador, where he was from. While there, Yvonne worked as an English teacher at the Catholic school her daughters were attending. As her children graduated from High School, they attended the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. Yvonne also returned to Carencro, LA where she was born, and worked as a secretary. Her last employer before she retired was the City of Lafayette.
Yvonne was a member of the Miraculous Medal Association, the Bon Mort Society, and the St. Anne Society of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Pallbearers are Miguel Alvergue, Enrique Murillo, Damon Savoie, Jamie Trahan, Jim Sonnier, and Pedro Iraheta. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Mamer and Wesley Rigsby.
Visitation hours will be observed on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
