Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Deborah Oliver Hargrave, 72, who passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022. Deacon Ken Soignier will conduct the services. Inurnment will take place in a private ceremony at Fountain Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Visitation hours will be held Friday morning from 9:00 am until services at Walters Funeral Home.
Deborah was born in Lafayette, LA on June 18, 1949, to parents Wendell “Bud” Oliver and Helen Prejean Oliver. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and The University of Southwest Louisiana (now ULL). She served as a maid in the Krewe of Gabriel as well as President of her sorority, Tri-Delta. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee and then returned to Lafayette as a full-time high school teacher at her alma mater, Lafayette High School. She spent 40 years at LHS where she taught Speech, Drama, and English and served for many years as Head of the English Department. She retired from LHS in 2013. She continued her service to education by volunteering with the Louisiana Association of Educators, The Retired Teachers Association of Lafayette, and the Friends of the Lafayette Public Library.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Hubert J. Hargrave; their three children; Matthew, Benjamin, and Joan; her sisters, Lisa and Julie; four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Helen, and beloved sister-in-law Una Mae Hargrave.
