Ruby Duck

February 14, 1944 — March 2, 2021

Ruby Nell Romero Duck left this earth on March 2, 2021 to join her Heavenly Father. She was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her father, Elias Romero, her mother, Louise Romero and her brothers, Albert Romero, Carlton Romero, Curley Romero, Harris Romero and her niece, Tonia Romero. Ruby was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, sister-in-law, godmother, nanny and so much more. She was cherished, adored, admired and loved by her family and friends. She was beautiful, caring, sweet, loving, protective, passionate, funny, smart, and loyal.  She leaves behind her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Robert.  She was the best mother a child could ever wish for and leaves behind her children Kevin Duck, Angella Harrington and Kayla Day and their beloved spouses, whom she loved like her own, Stacy Duke Duck, Bobby Harrington and Sean Day.  She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren whom she adored and leaves behind Dylan Duck, Whitney Touchet, Danni Duck Duhon and her spouse, Lucas Duhon, Laura Lee Harrington, Ethan Harrington, Kennedie Bourque and Laken Day. She was a loving great grandmother and leaves behind Carter Hill and Johlee Gilbert. She leaves behind her loving siblings, her brother, Keith Romero and her sister, Susie Romero. She leaves behind her loyal “guard dog”, Pepe.

Ruby graduated NISH in 1962. She was a country girl from Coteau who loved beautiful dresses. She lit up every room she ever walked in with her beauty and gorgeous smile. Her physical beauty was only surpassed by her inner beauty. She caught the eye of a young man from Abbeville and they married on October 2, 1965 and would be inseparable, loving, devoted and loyal to each other for 55 years until the day of her death.

Her biggest passion and devotion were her children. She sacrificed each and every day of her life to make theirs better. She was proud of her children and they, equally proud of their mom. She was a “Mama Bear” in every sense of the word as she would go to the “ends of the earth” to protect her “cubs”. She was sentimental and was the first to wish a Happy Birthday, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. She loved with all her heart, unconditionally and forever.

She ran her own tax business for 42 years. She was a tireless worker, accomplished and successful businesswoman. Her clients not only respected “Ms. Ruby” but loved her because she was great at what she did and because she was also loyal and protective of them. Her clients were family, and she would not quit until her work was done.

In September of 2020 she was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. She received a death sentence. Rather than mourn or grieve, become consumed in anger or pity, she chose to spend the rest of her days thankful for us and each one of those days. The illness was painful and cruel but each day she managed a smile and always reminded us that she loved us.

Ruby spent over 54 years teaching us how to live and the last six months teaching us how to die. For those of us who were blessed to have been part of her life, she leaves us broken hearted and with the hope that we will one day be able to join her in Heaven. We love you, adore you and until we meet again, will miss you and your beautiful smile every moment. Our loss is Heaven’s gain!
